To most, the InterContinental Amman (Jordan) is a historic landmark and popular business hotel in the diplomatic area. But I have a soft spot for it after staying there three times in the last two years, including once when I was convalescing from a serious gastro illness. Not only did I have the on-call doctor come to my room, the 24/7 room service kept me nourished with orange juice, white rice and bananas. On my most recent trip, I got to actually enjoy the breakfast buffet and pool. Set on the summit of one of the capital city’s seven hills, the InterContinental is just a quick taxi ride to lively Rainbow Street or the ever-popular Hashem Restaurant (for falafels and hummus) and Habibah Sweets (for kunafa).
