Disnarda Aragon Choque, Inca Trail Guide to Wild Women Expeditions

Inca Trail Guide - Wild Women Expeditions - International Women's Day 2023
About this submission:
“This is a beautiful photo of Disnarda Aragon Choque, one of Wild Women Expeditions’ dedicated female guides on the Inca Trail, and one of the best female guides ever! A native of Cuzco, she is immensely proud of her Inca cultural heritage. She grew up speaking Spanish as well as Quechua, the language of the Incas and of the majority of the peasants who live in the mountains of southern Peru. From an early age she enjoyed spending time in the mountains, in close contact with the natural environment. A graduate of the rigorous Tourism program at Cuzco’s San Antonio Abad University, she has been working as a professional guide since 2002. She enjoys sharing with visitors the natural wonders of the Andes, as well as encouraging a cultural mixing between visitors and her Andean neighbours. All Wild Women who return and have Disnarda as their guide rave about her compassion and ability to lead along the trail. You can hear from Disnarda via our Youtube video: https://youtu.be/irBkwY5MPLc”
What is your company doing to support women?
WWE was founded by a visionary woman and is owned by a resilient woman today. We employ women in every role and champion the unstoppable, powerful women who have become porters in Peru, Moroccan tour guides and fearless safari drivers in Tanzania. Our local expert guides are also women, which means you’re in AWESOME, hands, always. All of our trips have been thoughtfully curated to support local women and their communities. As we continue to expand our trip frequency and destinations, our goal is always to have a female as our main guide, that we stay at women owned/operated accommodations, visit women associations and cooperatives, and more. We are constantly challenging the travel industry to include more female run and powered elements in all areas of tourism.
What can women travellers do to support other women when they travel?
We know that travelling has a big impact on the Earth. Wherever we travel, we want to ensure that we are leaving that precious natural space untouched, or in a better state. WWE partners with women’s rights organizations and wholly supports advocacy campaigns and meaningful community projects that encourage the education of women and women artisans to create their own sustainable income. We are advocating for more female porters on the Inca Trail and we visit women weavers in cooperatives in Morocco and Jordan. We celebrate places like Dunia Camp in Tanzania, a safari lodge that is operated entirely by women. We are aligning ourselves with organizations such as Ally.org and NightLight International to support women who have been affected by sex trafficking. We are encouraging all women and our Wild Women community to educate themselves more on this issue and to consider supporting these organizations as well. We all need to encourage other women to seek out tour operators that support and promote other women. You can make a lasting impact by your actions, and not just your words.
Two women stop to take a photo while on a hiking trip. Traveling more sustainably is one way women can make a difference in travel.
