Puspa from Paon Cooking School, Bali

Puspa - Babes in Bali - IWD 2023
About this submission:
“Puspa is a passionate and beautiful Balinese woman who went from being a chef at a local hotel to running her own cooking school in Laplapan village, just outside of Ubud, Bali. She employs many people in her local village and has created a stepping stone for other females to not just be fully employed but to take the leap to start their own businesses.”
What is your company doing to support women?
One of our biggest pleasures is supporting local girls (that are falling between the cracks) through their pre teen and teen years. For 13 years, Babes in Bali has been working with a local Balinese charity and donates $100 on behalf of every participant on each of their tours. This helps these girls with clothing, school fees and supplies, technology, food, English classes and a chance to meet other kids who are in the same situation, and they become part of a bigger community. We continue to help them if they choose to do post secondary education through financial donations and emotional support.
What can women travellers do to support other women when they travel?
How women live in Bali is very different from how most of us were brought up. We support and encourage young women to get an education and make sure they feel comfortable in speaking up for themselves. By offering our women only tours to Bali, we also feel we are supporting women worldwide to have the courage to start travelling and to explore the world. Many of our clients have never left North America but with one international trip completed, they often feel they are now fully capable and confident enough to do another trip. Before they know it, they are travelling the world and living their best life.
