ATAXITO is a women- and Latina-owned boutique travel company offering immersive women’s travel in Mexico — slow travel through regions like Oaxaca, focused on culture, cuisine, and community.
Officially launched in 2024, ATAXITO is a cross-border partnership between U.S. and Mexican partners, though our Oaxaqueña co-founders have been leaders in the region’s tourism and hospitality landscape since the 1980s. Together, our multi-generational team — spanning our 30s, 50s, and 70s — brings decades of cultural expertise, storytelling, and hospitality experience to every journey we design.
Founded by Lisa K. Wirth, a solo travel expert and entrepreneur from the U.S., and Frida Lyle García and Yolanda García Cabrello, the mother–daughter team behind Oaxaca’s beloved Casa Frida B&B, ATAXITO was born from friendship, curiosity, and a shared passion for Mexican culture.
Our vision was simple yet profound
Create a new kind of women’s travel rooted in authentic cultural exchange — connecting guests to the real Oaxaca, the one alive in its kitchens, indigenous markets, and artisan workshops. A world revealed through its culinary and craft traditions — communicated uniquely through the hands, memories, and mastery of its women culture keepers.
Each ATAXITO tour reflects our belief that meaningful travel is built on human connection. We work exclusively with locally owned and operated partners — with more than 85% of our experiences directly benefiting women-owned businesses, traditional cooks, makers, and artisans who embody Oaxaca’s living culture. Our travel itineraries celebrate Oaxaca’s culinary and craft experiences for women through three lenses — culture, cuisine, and community — offering immersive, hands-on encounters that honor Oaxaca’s artistic traditions, its UNESCO-celebrated foodways, and the generosity of its people.
Tour groups are intentionally small and thoughtfully curated to create space for genuine exchange among like-minded travelers. Our travelers learn not just about Oaxaca, but through it — through the stories, flavors, and skills shared by the women who keep its traditions alive.
ATAXITO is not just a way to travel — it’s a mindset.
Each itinerary is immersive, women-led, and grounded in respect — rewarding the women and families who open their homes and hearts to us. Because every journey with ATAXITO honors something enduring: vibrant living culture, expressed through the hands, memories, and mastery of Oaxaca’s multi-generational women makers and culture keepers.
