I love nothing more than a group of women far from home, free from the constraints and habits of daily life, discovering the wonders and mysteries of a new, vibrant world around them. I love leading trips grounded in daily writing because honest storytelling and sharing bonds a group quickly, allowing women to form deep friendships that often last long after the trip is over. Writing requires close observation, sensory awareness, and presence, enhancing the travel experience. I call my retreats “Write, Travel, Transform” because that’s what the women who come on my trips experience time and time again. Combining adventure, cultural exploration, writing and relaxation is an unbeatable combination. – Laura Davis & The Writer’s Journey
About the Writer’s Journey
I am the author of The Burning Light of Two Stars: A Mother-Daughter Story, the story of my loving yet tumultuous relationship with my mother, and six other non-fiction books. My first books, The Courage to Heal and The Courage to Heal Workbook, paved the way for hundreds of thousands of women and men to heal from the trauma of sexual abuse. Becoming the Parent You Want to Be, a rich resource guide co-authored with parenting expert Janis Keyser, helped parents develop a vision for the families they want to create. I Thought We’d Never Speak Again: The Road from Estrangement to Reconciliation taught the skills of reconciliation and peace building, one relationship at a time. My groundbreaking books have been translated into 11 languages and sold two million copies.
In addition to writing books that inspire and change people’s lives, the work of my heart is to teach. For more than twenty years, I’ve helped people find their voices, tell their stories, and hone their craft. I love creating supportive, intimate writing communities online, in person, and internationally. For the last ten years, I’ve been combining writing with travel: taking small groups of women (with an occasional male spouse thrown in) to Bali, Peru, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia Scotland, and Greece for ecotours that combine cultural exploration, adventure, writing, and sometimes yoga.
