Crete Trails & Tavernas, Greece

Crete Trails & Tavernas, Greece

Embrace the beauty and tradition of Crete on this 8-day guided walking tour, where each day invites you to discover a different side of Greece’s largest island. From scenic coastal paths and mountain trails to intimate village visits and taverna meals, this sociable and enriching itinerary offers the perfect blend of light adventure, culture, and relaxation.

Your home for the week is the welcoming, family-run Sunny Bay Hotel, ideally located on the seafront in Kissamos. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a drink and dinner at a traditional taverna, setting the tone for a week filled with Greek hospitality and shared moments.

Over five fully guided walks, explore the region’s natural and cultural highlights. Start with a visit to the ancient hilltop village of Polyrrinia, once a powerful city-state, where panoramic views stretch across mountains and sea. From there, descend through fertile farmland and olive groves to the town of Kissamos. Another walk offers a unique glimpse into local life, beginning with a tour of a traditional village house before trekking through peaceful hamlets, citrus orchards, and the forested hillsides en route to Milia.

The tour also takes you west to the striking coastal area of Falassarna. This walk ends with time to unwind on a sandy beach and, if you like, a swim in the crystal-clear waters. There’s also a free day to relax or explore further—perhaps with an optional boat trip to Balos Lagoon and the island fortress of Gramvousa.

Later in the week, follow coastal paths from the rugged village of Ravdoucha, passing tiny Byzantine churches and hidden coves before a well-earned lunch in a seaside taverna. Your final walk through the dramatic Sirikari Gorge to Polyrrinia offers sweeping views, peaceful trails, and the chance to spot native wildlife like the majestic griffon vulture.

With daily breakfasts, four lunches, three dinners in authentic tavernas, and the guidance of local experts, this tour is a rich and memorable way to experience the heart and soul of Crete—on foot and in great company.
