The Philippines, a stunning archipelago of over 7,000 islands in Southeast Asia, is known for its white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant marine life. In Manila, we stay at the historic Manila Hotel, once home to General MacArthur and visited by the likes of Mandela, Brando, King Charles, and the Beatles. We then head north to the remote mountain regions of Banaue and Sagada to experience traditional Filipino culture and see the famous rice terraces, followed by a visit to the UNESCO-listed colonial town of Vigan. In Bicol, we see the active Mayon Volcano and learn to cook regional dishes like Laing and Bicol Express. Swim and snorkel with whale sharks in Donsol, spot sea turtles and dugongs, and enjoy a magical firefly river cruise. Visit the world’s largest underground river in Sabang, and explore El Nido’s iconic limestone islands and reefs. A special highlight is a 2-day ‘castaway camping’ experience on a remote island, sleeping under the stars in mesh tents. ElderTreks’ 28-day tour offers an in-depth journey through the Philippines—rich in nature, culture, and warm hospitality. Note: Much of our travel is by traditional outrigger boats.
