About this submission:
“Jenny Lobo runs the Women’s Sewing Cooperative in the Valley of the Rio Cangrejal in La Ceiba, Honduras. The local women in the village came together about 30 years ago to construct the Sewing Cooperative and install the cable crossing the river.
The women slowly started to accumulate sewing machines and to produce their products from colorful local cloth.
Their themes include jungle, birds, and the animals of the Honduran rainforest. Murals, aprons, place mats, hot mats, and tablecloths are just a few examples of their beautiful art.
During times when men are largely the sole ‘bread winners’, the sewing cooperative gives women the chance to create art, earn wages, and contribute financially to their family’s well being. “
