Prepare to be challenged / Uncover the 1001 mysteries of Lebanon

Tourleb is co founded and co owned by two 45+ -year old women. We both are feminists to the core, we recognize many of our privileges as Lebanese women having lived 10+ years in Canada and having a Canadian Passport by birth (passport privilege, hello), but also as Lebanese women we are very well aware of the not-so-privileged spaces that exist in Lebanon, the challenges faced by women despite them being very present in the business world and as amazing leaders, home makers, small business owners. It is in between those spaces that we love sharing Lebanon. To show women that

1- Lebanon is a safe destination for solo women

2- nothing should ever be taken for granted. Things move, change and evolve, and one should always work for things to be better.

3- Break the many prejudice travelers have about Lebanon and its women, and

4- No matter your gender, Lebanon is a totally underrated destination that is worth discovering!!

Tourleb is a socially responsible tour operator based in Lebanon. We offer personalized experiences through out this very small country, always making sure we don’t break market prices. 3 to 5 local actors directly benefit from our visits, and highlighting local family and women owned businesses, social initiatives.

Tourleb came to be by pure chance

In 2008 Nada and I (Joelle) worked on a project together called Hyphen ISlam Christianity. It was supposed to be a small 20-page book showcasing churches and mosques next to each other in Lebanon. But because we are both way too curious about things. This original idea quickly evolved into a 700-page coffee book table (well, i lie. 693 pages) – a photo exhibit – a documentary. This project became 6 years of our life between production, research, writing, filming, traveling all corners of the country… and touring in more than 20 cities in Europe, North America, and the Middle East.

From there, foreigners and expats and Lebanese in Lebanon started asking us to take them to “page 555, 630 or 265”. We started operating visits to Lebanon on a personal basis, before the identity of Tourleb saw the day in 2013. The original idea was to encourage the Lebanese themselves to go out of their comfort zones and to reclaim the whole country as theirs. But after a while, Tourleb started catering to the travelers, FIT and solo women. It was never premeditated – rather we attracted those who liked our mentality and vision and mission.

Our take on tourism and traveling is simple:

We want you to fall in love with this tiny misrepresented country. We take you to the unknown places, we want you to meet the people, the artisans, the homemakers, the women, men (and other) who make this country such a rich destination – along with the historical and cultural sites. We work with more than 700 partners everywhere in the country, we know the specialists (many of them women) and can cater to truly uniquely catered requests from organizing speaking sessions with female entrepreneurs, to key players in the NGO world, to youth, to local change makers, activists, cooks and chefs… the list can go on for many pages.

We also offer trips abroad – usually to destinations not widely covered from Lebanon with the same mindset and purpose. Our trips are listed on wetravel and are open for any traveler who want to join.

Pricing

Our prices vary depending on the request. But simply put: we take no less than 350 – 450USD per day for 1 to 4 people. this includes car, gas, driving, guiding and entrance fees. Of course, depending on transport, number of people, what is included or not, then these prices will vary. But we also offer consulting for those who want to do things alone but need us for advice, reservations, etc.

Specialisations

All things Lebanon.

Commitment to Sustainability

Tourleb is committed to only have a positive impact on the local communities. This is translated into the below values and policies we enforce:
1- Each and everyday MUST directly profit to 3 to 5 local stakeholders
2- We are strongly opposed to breaking market prices
3- 70% of our revenue are redistributed to the locals
4- We organize a few clean ups a year to raise awareness on ignored cultural sites
5- We are working on creating partnerships with other individuals in the travel field

Our website must be updated. But, meanwhile:

Single Supplement Policy

As a tour operator we don’t. but hotels in Lebanon sadly do. The only way around this is by booking more than 6 rooms per hotel. but we usually work with small charming guesthouses and their single policies vary.
