“At the foot of the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou in Southern Morocco, we met Aïcha B, a local woman who left school at a young age, worked for a time at a hotel kitchen and then retrained as a dressmaker. With the encouragement of her brother and family, she started her own label and runs her own boutique in town, selling her hand-sewn and hand-embroidered clothing in modern and traditional styles, like both outfits pictured.”
An easy way to support other women is looking through the Journey Woman directory: by definition, booking a trip through any one of the companies featured in the directory will support other women in one way or another. When travelling, seek out women guides as well as local women-run businesses like restaurants, shops, hotels. It’s so easy to find them nowadays: just google women-led business in the place you’re interested in finding them and voilà!
