Trekking with Olga in Spain

Olga Ingles, Spain - Bold Spirit Travel - IWD 2023
About this submission:
“As the pandemic began to subside, Olga led a group of adventurous women along the Camino de Santiago in Northwestern Spain. In this photo, you’ll see Olga seated on the left with her feet in the hot springs and Regina Winkle-Bryan (Bold Spirit Travel founder) on the right with her feet out. This was a happy moment after a long day of walking and the hot springs town we stopped in dates back to the Romans. Our joy stemmed from a few sources: the world opening up again after the restrictions of 2020, and the delight of being able to walk along Spain’s ancient pilgrimage trail for 9 days. Finally, we were free again! Olga leads tours all over the world and collaborates with Bold Spirit Travel on our hiking trips in Spain as well as our Barcelona tours. From Catalonia, Olga is Catalana and her enthusiasm for her slice of paradise on the Iberian Peninsula is one of the many reasons we love hanging out with her. Women like Olga inspire us to think outside the box and embrace adventure in new places.”
What is your company doing to support women?
I founded Bold Spirit Travel first and foremost to connect women to one another. Our journeys are about creating community and being brave. Being bold is easier when you have other strong women to support your aspirations, whether they’re travel-related or not. Magic happens on women-only trips. The dynamic and social pressures shift. The conversation is freer, more candid, and deeper. Remember your last gathering with all your best girlfriends and the afterglow that followed? That’s the power and sparkle we’re after on each of our tours. The people we meet while traveling often impact us more than the destination itself.

We are all about lifting women up and celebrating women-owned businesses. This is why we work with women guides all over the world and hire talented female facilitators to lead our trips. We also donate each year to Girls Inc.
What can women travellers do to support other women when they travel?
Some simple choices can help you support women while you travel. When you hire a local guide, hire a woman. Search out women-owned restaurants and boutiques. Is there a women’s cooperative where you are going? Shop there! Go to The Intentionalist and click on “woman-owned” for an example of how to find women in business near you.
Two women stop to take a photo while on a hiking trip. Traveling more sustainably is one way women can make a difference in travel.
