Then, with the encouragement and instruction of AGC guide and professional outdoor writer, Jenny O'Connell, craft your stories into pieces of writing you're proud of. Adventures in Good Company

Northern Georgia, the jumping off point of the Appalachian Trail, is known for its gorgeous and rugged mountains, its towering waterfalls, and its ... wineries? Who knew?! Turns out the soil, climate, and elevation are not only great for hiking, they're also perfect for growing grapes for wine. So on this four-day getaway, we'll combine hiking to waterfalls with opportunities to visit wineries, learn about wine, and sampling some of the wonderful cuisine that can be found here.

San Juan Islands Exploration

Adventures in Good Company

The San Juan Islands, located off the coast of Washington State, are known as one of the most spectacular island archipelagos in the country. Craggy coasts, deep blue-green waters with abundant sea-life, and pastoral landscapes abound. Known as one of the best sea kayaking places in America, it also offers interesting small towns, a rich human history, diverse marine and bird wildlife, scenic hiking, and an opportunity to look for wildlife on a boat tour. Our trip starts and ends in Seattle and if you have never visited Washington in July, you'll find out why everyone falls in love with it.

Magical Maine

Adventures in Good Company

Few places are more beautiful in September than the Maine sea coast, and our trip in Acadia National Park is designed to give you an active introduction to this amazing area: bike on quiet carriage paths amidst picturesque scenery; sea kayak along the coast among the many peninsulas and islands; hike scenic trails that provide incredible coastal views; visit some of Acadia's quaint villages and towns; and savor fresh Maine lobster. All these elements combine for a vacation that is both stimulating and relaxing, and definitely unforgettable.

Sedona and the Grand Canyon

Adventures in Good Company

Arizona's canyon country is justly famous. From the cliff side dwellings of an ancient pueblo people, and the colorful chasm known as the Grand Canyon, to the red rocks of Sedona, it is a never-ending feast for the eyes. The best way to see it is on foot, and we'll combine lots of hiking with time to relax and absorb the beauty of the area as we explore these three very different areas. If you have been wanting a more intimate view of the area than most people ever get, please join us for seven days of hiking, eating, relaxing and laughing.

Alaska: From Anchorage to Fairbanks

Adventures in Good Company

Join us in a journey from Alaska's largest city of Anchorage to its Golden Heart city of Fairbanks, along the historic Parks Highway. Along the way, we'll soak in therapeutic hot springs, hike through boreal forests and over alpine tundra, raft a white-water river, and explore unique Alaska treasures, not least of which is Denali National Park and its abundant wildlife. During our week we will discover the wide diversity of Alaska's natural beauty and meet a few of its characters along the way.

Hiking Utah’s Majestic Parks

Adventures in Good Company

Southern Utah is home to some of the most well known National Parks, State Parks, and National Monuments; each with its own special magic and unique attractions. Zion National Park is famous for its soaring red Navajo Sandstone cliffs. Nearby Bryce Canyon is a testimonial to the erosive power of ice and rainwater, carving its colorful limestone into windows, fins, and soaring spires called hoodoos. Capitol Reef is a monument to the amazing power of uplift. Snow Canyon offers a strikingly fragile and unique desert environment, all provided by multiple volcanic eruptions in the areas tens of thousands of years ago. While we need to drive between parks (on some of the most scenic highways you will ever have the pleasure to drive on), this is not primarily a driving trip. We will hike between 3 and 6 hours every day and see each park as only hikers can.

Death Valley and Joshua Tree

Adventures in Good Company

A Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Park hiking tour is the perfect antidote to the winter blahs and one of the best warm winter vacations in the United States! In March the skies are clear and sunny (but not too hot!) and the hiking is excellent. In addition to unique ecology and engaging human history, there is fascinating geology that our guides will help us understand. This trip is whirlwind road trip through two spectacular California National Parks. We'll visit Rhyolite Ghost Town with its deserted ruins; see deserted mines; a saltwater river in the desert; a desert oasis home to the famous pupfish, hike at the lowest point in the whole US; along the rim of a volcano and through surreal geologic formations. If you long to put away your down jacket and put on your shorts, feel warm sun on your deprived skin, and be totally immersed in a place that has a mystic status for many of us. By the end of the trip, you'll have higher Vitamin D levels and a whole new appreciation of this unique landscape.

A perfect choice for history-buffs and naturalists alike, our hikes will explore both the verdant trails of the Norman Bird Sanctuary (our home for the long weekend!), and an ocean-front path alongside Newport’s famously jaw-dropping gilded age mansions.
