Hebrides Autumn and Sailing Adventure

Afternoon aboard the boat sailing through the Hebridean islands - Hebrides Autumn and Sailing Adventure

This tour has multiple departures

Join Selkie for this unique opportunity to sail during this wilder season of Hebride’s Autumn.

The Small Isles of Eigg, Rum, Canna and Muck are magical Hebridean islands ten miles south of Skye.  Come autumn, the trees and hillsides turn a burnished orange. On sunny days, the air is crisp and the light sharp.  Our five-day trips are timed with the full moon, and the new moon tidal range is greater.  Higher high water and lower low water enable Selkie, with her lifting keel, to get in and out of the shallow and more sheltered anchorages around the isles, facilitating exploration and longer walks ashore.

We’ll explore based on wind and weather, with the possibility of moonlit sails, starlit walks, and summits like Sgurr offering stunning sea views or atmospheric treks through clouds and cliffs steeped in history.

No matter the weather, the islands offer beautiful anchorages and rewarding walks. Inside, Selkie stays warm with a diesel stove and cabin radiators. While it can be chilly or wet on deck, the right clothing makes all the difference.

Enjoy delicious meals prepared by our chef, featuring locally sourced produce. Autumn brings fresh vegetables, pheasant and duck from Muck, beef from Eigg, and venison from Rum.

Hebrides Autumn and Sailing Adventure Highlights:

  • Departure from Mallaig: Begin the voyage with a sailing experience, including hoisting the mainsail and learning about navigation choices.
  • Anchorage Stops: Each evening, the boat anchors in a scenic location, with flexibility based on weather conditions.
  • Hiking: Expect daily hikes ranging from 2 to 6 hours on uneven terrain, requiring a good level of fitness.
  • Yoga Sessions: Optional yoga practices led by Skipper Celia, potentially held in island community halls.
  • Visit to Isle of Eigg: Possible stop at Skipper Celia’s croft to meet Shetland sheep and explore unique yarn products available exclusively aboard the Selkie.

There are a myriad of possibilities of where and what we do, but each day, this will depend on the conditions at the time of our voyage. You will need sufficient fitness to walk up and down hills on uneven ground to get the best out of these voyages.
