Along the way, encounter diverse wildlife. This seven-day tour offers a unique blend of history and nature.
For thousands of years, the Pyrenees have provided refuge for those facing persecution and extermination. In the 11th and 12th centuries, the Cathars built strongholds like the castles of Puilaurens, Peyrepertuse, and Quéribus. They chose the rugged terrain of the Pyrenees, knowing their fortresses could neither be hidden nor conquered. When persecuted by the Catholic Church, the Cathars used their knowledge of the mountains to resist and protect their community.
Later, during WWII, the same trails were used by the Resistance. They fought against injustice and saved those hunted during the Nazi occupation. Experience these hidden treasures to glimpse the region’s history and culture.
This tour includes three hikes, which require only a day pack. Four additional days will be used to explore sites of historical and cultural significance, visit local artisans, and taste the territory’s wines.
