Explore the region of Normandy with European Experiences

Our trip centers on the French region of Normandy, bordered to the north by La Manche, the English Channel. This scenic region boasts nearly 400 miles of stunning coastline. We’ll focus on the department of Calvados, named for the premium apple brandy it produces.

To many, Normandy is best known for the Allied invasion on D-Day, June 6, 1944. This historic event began France’s liberation and ultimately led to an Allied victory in Europe during World War II. Our group will spend a full day with an expert guide, visiting significant sites in the region. Additionally, we’ll explore a few other important sites throughout our week in Bayeux. This day in Normandy is a highlight among many unforgettable experiences on this trip.

But we explore many other dimensions of this beautiful and historic region. Normandy is rich in medieval history, especially relating to William the Conqueror.

Our group will spend seven nights in a beautiful and well-located hotel in the medieval town of Bayeux. Bayeux is centrally located and has many restaurants, cafes, and shops.

The Normandy Experience Highlights:

  • A guided walking tour of Bayeux, including a visit to the Bayeux Cathedral, consecrated in 1077. You’ll also have time to visit one of Bayeux’s exciting museums. (Unfortunately, the famous Bayeux tapestry is unavailable for visits while a new museum is being constructed.)
  • Our D-Day-focused day is guided by an expert, covering landing beaches, museums, cemeteries, and key memorial sites. We’ll also explore remnants of military installations and other significant locations from this historic period.
  • We’ll take a day trip to Honfleur, a charming town and port on the Seine estuary. First, we’ll enjoy a guided walking tour, followed by free time to explore. You can wander the town’s picturesque streets, visit its gardens, or browse galleries and shops before lunch on your own.
  • A morning in the town of Falaise, birthplace of William the Conqueror. You’ll have the option to visit the medieval chateau or the Memorial museum commemorating the impact of World War II on the civilian population.
  • An afternoon in the scenic Pays d’Auge, a rural area filled with villages, farms, orchards, and cider production. This region is known for its cheese, and visiting a small family dairy farm is always a highlight. We’ll also enjoy tasting the delicious local cheeses.
  • Visits to unique chateaus, gardens and abbeys, including the impressive chateau at Balleroy.
  • A visit to a family-owned apple distillery producing juice, cider, pommeau, and Calvados. We’ll enjoy a delicious picnic lunch in the courtyard and a tour with the owner.
  • Memorable meals of local specialties in various settings. Including a gastronomic dinner, simple crêperies, traditional dining rooms, and waterfront cafes.
