A trip based in the beautiful Dordogne in southwest France with European Experiences

The Dordogne River, stretching nearly 300 miles, is central to this region of France and one of its largest administrative départements. Our focus for the week is the Périgord Noir, surrounding the Dordogne and Vézère Valleys and the renowned market town of Sarlat. Known as “Périgord” in ancient times, this historic name remains widely used today. Throughout our week, we’ll explore Périgord’s distinct history, breathtaking scenery, charming villages and towns, rich culture, and exceptional cuisine.

Our base for the week is the village of Montignac, located about 30 minutes from Sarlat. Montignac, a lively village with 3,000 year-round residents, offers a blend of history and charm. The village features 11th-century castle ruins, a 12th-century church, and numerous medieval buildings. You’ll find a variety of shops, restaurants, and services, as well as an outdoor market held twice weekly. Just outside Montignac is the famous Lascaux cave, where early humans painted walls around 17,000 years ago.
