The Company
Cosa Buena is a social enterprise and nonprofit utilizing regenerative travel practices to support grassroots community leaders in their efforts to improve standards of living, address community-identified needs, and preserve traditions in Oaxaca, Mexico.
While developing her Master’s thesis in collaboration with a collective of female Zapotec weavers in Teotitlán del Valle, Vera realized the profound value of the experiences she was having in the homes of her artisan partners and in 2017 the first Cosa Buena retreat was born, when Vera took a small group into the homes of her partners for hands on workshops, home cooked meals, and intimate dialogues. The idea of giving back to the communities where Cosa Buena worked came naturally and soon became one of the central pillars of the organization. In 2019 the non-profit The Cosa Buena Foundation was formed.
Ten percent of all proceeds from our retreat programs are donated to The Cosa Buena Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which spearheads projects addressing community-identified needs that are led by our community partners in the villages where we work. One such program, Ser Mujer, is a collaboration with female Zapotec weaving collective Vida Nueva in the community of Teotitlán Del Valle and aims to address gender inequality and remove barriers that prevent women from realizing their rights and full potential. Bringing women together from around the world to create an intercultural exchange of ideas and values is at the heart of what we do at Cosa Buena.
