The Volunteer Trip starts…
On San Cristóbal Island, home to the Interpretive Center at Darwin Bay and the Galápagos Science Center. During the trip, we will snorkel at different sites to photograph sea turtles. Our photographs provide data about the sea turtles for the University of San Francisco de Quito’s sea turtle research project which aims to protect turtles from damage caused by boats.
Later, we will transfer by small plane to Isla Isabela, home to the Centro de Crianza. Where we will learn about the National Park’s captive breeding program. In the tropical highlands of the island, we will improve the habitat at a giant tortoise sanctuary, where tortoises from the national park’s captive breeding program are raised in a protected environment until they are mature enough to be released in a natural setting in Galápagos National Park. We will also visit the Sierra Negra volcano, the second-largest intact crater in the world.
