Travel to Costa Rica with ConservationVIP, a nonprofit helping to sustain biodiversity.
This is a trip for people who love nature and wildlife. Experience conservation in the land known for its progressive environmental policies and rich biodiversity. In collaboration with local Costa Rican nonprofits, our volunteer trip participants engage in projects which help sea turtles and Resplendent Quetzals while also supporting local communities.
We begin our journey in San José, the capital of Costa Rica. From there, we travel along the Pacific coast to Punta Banco on the Burica Peninsula. Along the way, we stop at Marino Ballena National Park for wildlife spotting. Once in Punta Banco, we participate in a sea turtle preservation program to protect biodiversity. Our local guide is also skilled at spotting wildlife, so keep your camera ready. You might see macaws, crocodiles, toucans, monkeys, or sloths.
Our sea turtle project activities in Punta Banco
A local nonprofit organization leads our sea turtle project in Punta Banco. This group was founded to improve sea turtle conservation efforts along the Osa canton coastline. Specifically, the focus is on protecting turtles that inhabit and nest at Punta Banco beach.
Why join the Costa Rica Volunteer Trip:
Patrol beaches to locate, excavate, and relocate sea turtle nests to a protected hatchery.
Release newly hatched baby sea turtles on the beach as they begin their ocean journey.
Volunteer at the turtle hatchery, record scientific data, and work on beach erosion mitigation projects.
Travel back to San José through Costa Rica’s highlands, experiencing diverse landscapes and climates.
Spend two nights in the highlands, collaborating with a local community on Resplendent Quetzal conservation projects.
Build nests and participate in habitat improvement efforts for the Resplendent Quetzal.
Be sure to bring your camera to enjoy the excellent wildlife photography opportunities you will encounter throughout our journey.
